About the reels
The view program drew one frame for every chosen step of the trajectory integration and photographed each on a CRT; MSC cut sequences of them into the film View from a Spacecraft. These reels are computed the same way, a display list per step, from the recreation’s trajectory and attitude:
- Earth, translunar coast — Figure 6’s framing, every 3 minutes for five hours.
- Moon on the approach — Figure 7’s framing, every 15 minutes, until the Moon fills the field.
- Scanning telescope, rev 30 — Figure 3a’s attitude held for two hours: the stars stand still and the Moon’s horizon sweeps through as the command module orbits.
- LM, turning — the hidden-line lunar module, 3° a frame.
The film starts on its own unless your system is set to reduce motion. “Film grain” lays a light grain over the frame; it is decoration, not data.
Limits
These are the recreation’s frames, not scans of the 1969 film, and they share the recreation’s recorded differences from the originals (the horizon rule, the hatching).
